Veteran Actor Jamie Bartlett Dies at Age 55
News of the sudden death of legendary South African stage and screen actor Jamie Bartlett has caused shock waves across the country.
Jamie Bartlett was best known for his role as villain and mastermind David Genaro on Rhythm City, a role he filled from 2007. However, older generations may remember him as his character on the iconic South African soapie Isidingo: The Need, Mike O’Riley, which he played in 1997.
Bartlett graduated from the University of Cape Town and the Chrysalis Theatre Acting School in London. He began his theatre career in 1986 and his TV career in 1997 in an MNet made for TV movie titled “Sexy Girls.”
Throughout his career, he was awarded for his acting abilities, raking in a Vita Award for his role in the stage play ‘Mojo’, a Best South African Actor Crystal Award for his role in Isidingo, and a SAFTA for his portrayal of David Genaro, amongst many others.
Bartlett’s cause of death is not yet known.
