CULTISH x Samurai Farai Redefine the Athlete Through Movement
CULTISH has teamed up with multidisciplinary artist Samurai Farai for “Sport, Redefined,” a new Sport drop that challenges the way we think about movement, performance and the athlete.
Released on July 31, 2026, the collaboration places Farai at the centre of CULTISH’s latest campaign, trading the conventional language of competition for something more personal, movement as ritual, release and a way of clearing the mind. Laced in PUMA, Farai becomes less traditional athlete than a figure moving through his own rhythm, reflecting the collection’s belief that sport does not always have to be about winning.

For CULTISH, the collaboration feels like a natural extension of a brand built around crossing boundaries. Founded in Cape Town in 2020 by creative director Ryan Brussow, the independent label has always pulled from skateboarding, punk, hip-hop, internet culture, graphic ephemera and DIY scenes. Its clothes are made locally through an intentionally hands-on process of cutting, dyeing, washing, distressing and printing, giving the brand a visual identity that sits somewhere between streetwear, art and subculture. “Made in Cape Town. Raised by the internet” remains an apt description of a label that has built its world by refusing to separate culture from clothing.
That sensibility finds a strong counterpart in Samurai Farai, born Farai Engelbrecht, whose practice moves between visual art, curation and cultural entrepreneurship. His work is immediately recognisable for its bold colour, raw line work and cubist influence, while drawing from street culture, African symbolism and contemporary questions around identity and human connection. Working across mediums including spray paint, oils, ceramics and sculpture, Farai has developed a visual language that is both deeply personal and deliberately difficult to place. His presence in the CULTISH campaign therefore extends beyond simply wearing the clothes, he brings an artistic perspective to the idea of what movement, identity and self-expression can look like.

“Sport, Redefined” is strongest when it refuses the familiar imagery of sport as pure performance. There are no finish lines to chase and no metrics to prove. Instead, the campaign considers the everyday act of moving as something that can create space, restore focus and reconnect the body with the mind. Farai embodies that idea naturally. His creative practice has long been concerned with introspection, mental wellbeing and challenging fixed ideas of African identity, making the collaboration feel less like a conventional fashion campaign and more like an intersection of two creative philosophies.
Shot by Matt Uppink Media and launched alongside a collaborative mixer, the CULTISH x Samurai Farai drop sits at the intersection of fashion, art and movement without forcing any of them into a single category. It is a collaboration between a Cape Town label shaped by subculture and an artist whose work constantly questions convention. Released through CULTISH’s channels on July 31, the collection ultimately makes a simple proposition, sport does not have to be about competition, and movement does not need an audience. Sometimes, it is simply about moving forward.
