Second Time’s the Charm: Big Brother Mzansi Bazozwa Winner Liema Pantsi’s Redemption Arc
If at first success is not the end result of a foray, dusting yourself off and going for another attempt is a given, especially if greatness is already etched in the heart as deep as the knowing that one has the potential to draw it out. Such was the journey of Big Brother Mzansi Bazozwa winner Liema Pantsi, who returned as a past housemate (from Big Brother Mzansi S’ya Mosha) and walked the entire path carpeted with the coveted R2 million grand prize and the added bonus of extra fame.
Liema talked about coming back as a returning contestant and admitted that the premise behind her boomerang was unfinished business, with her citing that her previous run left much to be desired.
“Coming back was never about redemption alone, it was about completion. I’m someone who believes in finishing what I start and last season, I walked away knowing I had more to give. The journey had more lows than highs and I didn’t leave with the sense of fulfillment or growth I knew I was capable of. So, when the opportunity came again it wasn’t even a question. I chose to return, not just to compete, but to rise, to finish my race with intention, strength and purpose,” she said.

With the objective fulfilled, Pantsi reflected on who she was back in the house and expressed a deep sense of pride in the way she conducted herself. From holding her own against a house of strong-willed competitors to keeping true to her identity while navigating the delicate politics within the walls of Biggie’s exile, Pantsi won the prize and the hearts of Mzansi without having to lose any piece of who she knew herself to be.
“I’m deeply proud. I showed up fully unapologetically myself and that takes courage. South Africa didn’t just see a contestant, they saw a force. They saw someone grounded in faith, driven by purpose, and committed to standing for what is right. I’ve shown that strength and softness can coexist, and that believing in something bigger than yourself can carry you through anything.
“The Liema everybody saw was me in every sense of the word. Authenticity isn’t something you switch on and off, especially not in a space where you’re seen 24/7. What people saw was a woman shaped by responsibility, resilience and truth. As a firstborn, I naturally carry strength, stubbornness, and a deep sense of grounding. I stand my ground, I know who I am, and I don’t bend just to fit into spaces that weren’t made for me,” she said.

As with every race, Big Brother Mzansi is an unpredictable spectacle, with favourites touted to win unexpectedly falling behind while dark horses leapfrog competitors deemed better in one metric or perhaps even a couple. And each contest has a critical turning point, a stage that makes it all the more clear who the possible winner will be, and according to Liema herself, that juncture was the Wheel Spin curveball that granted her a clean pass to the finale alongside other contestants, including the eventual runner-up Thandeka Tshabalala. She shared her feelings on how fortune favoured her on the day.
“Belief is something that grew within me over time. But there was a defining moment that told me that I was going to go all the way. It was the day the wheel saved me. That was more than luck for me; it was confirmation. In that moment, I felt aligned, protected, and reassured that my journey was being guided. From then on, I didn’t just hope, I knew that something greater was at work in my favor,” she said.
Pantsi shared how much the experience meant to her, sharing that she would miss everything about the contest, from the games and the challenges to the zeitgeist of the housemates and the matrix of the mansion.
“Honestly, everything. The tasks pushed me, the parties brought out my joy, and the entire experience stretched me in ways I’ll never forget. It wasn’t just a competition it was a world of its own, filled with unforgettable moments, laughter, challenges, and growth. I lived, I learned and I truly had fun,” she said.

Much like every other housemate, Liema had her fair share of drama-filled moments, and she revealed the lessons she was able to extrude from them.
“I’ve learned that shrinking yourself to make others comfortable is a disservice to who you are. You are allowed to take up space fully and boldly. I’ve also learned the power of vulnerability, saying “I don’t know” doesn’t make you weak, it makes you real and open to growth.
“More lessons that will stay with me: Not everyone deserves access to your energy, so protect your peace. People will project their fears onto you so don’t let that become your limitation. Growth often comes from discomfort, so lean into it instead of running away. You can be kind without being a pushover; boundaries are necessary. Trust your instincts because they rarely lie. And most importantly, never lose yourself trying to win people over,” she said.
Liema, looking forward to horizons and possibilities fertile with prospects and gaping doors waiting for her, shared her vision for what’s to come.
“The future is bold, intentional, and limitless. I’m stepping into spaces that align with my purpose and expanding in ways people didn’t expect. I’m here to break barriers, to challenge norms, and to turn what seemed impossible into reality. So, expect growth, impact, and a presence that cannot be ignored. This is just the beginning,” she said.

Pantsi gave her followers a shout out and spoke with gratitude about how much they validated her journey.
“To everyone who supported me, believed in me, and stood by me, thank you. Your love carried me in moments where I needed strength the most. I don’t take any of it for granted. This journey may have been mine, but the victory belongs to all of us. Stay true to who you are, keep believing in your own light, and never underestimate the power of showing up as yourself. I see you, I appreciate you, and this is only the start of something greater,” she said.
