Tyla, Maglera, Dlala Thukzin, and TxC Up for the 2025 BET Awards
The day has been set, and the nominees have been announced for the 2025 BET Awards, and four South African musical acts have secured nods. Due to be held in Los Angeles, California, nominated Mzansi stars include popiano queen Tyla, Durban-born maestro Dlala Thukzin, hip-hop star Maglera Doe Boy, and deejaying duo TxC. Hosted by American comedian Kevin Hart, the award ceremony will be taking place on the 9th of June 2025 at the Peacock Theatre.
Already the reigning holder of Best International Act gong, Tyla has once again scored a nomination in the same category, alongside DJ and dynamic dancer Uncle Waffle, as well as afrobeats superstars Ayra Starr and Rema, among others. Eating from the commercial and critical success of her self-titled debut album as well as its deluxe version, hers was a year of successive music video rollouts, including visuals for “Jump” and the original and remixed versions of “Push 2 Start”.

On the other hand, vying for fan-determined Best New International Act award, it is a race between Lamontville producer Dlala Thukzin, Free State-born rapper Maglera, as well as independent Eastern Cape pair TxC.
Dlala Thukzin had a year for the books in 2024, building upon the towering success of his SAMA-winning EP Permanent Music 3, as well as its smash hit “iPlan”. The year saw Thukzin release his project Finally Famous Too, along with a string of street-shaking hits such as “AmaGear”, “Sohlala Sisonke”, and “FOMO”. On the other hand, TxC and Maglera have been stoking the flames with their 2024 projects: Turn Off the Lights and Maglera Tapes, respectively. Chasing the title alongside them are acts such as Shallipopi from Nigeria and Abigail Chams from Tanzania, among others.
