What Happened to Morda Bongz?: Award-Winning DJ Aired for Being a No-Show After Being Paid
Award-winning DJ and producer Morda Bongz has been the talk of the town since Jola Cafe called out the former Black Motion member for not showing up to perform for their event on the 22nd of March 2025, despite paying him in full for his appearance. Bongz was later spotted performing up a storm in Johannesburg and building anticipation for his upcoming album Asante III, prompting questions concerning his professionalism.
Morda Bongz was slated to perform at the Groovy Baby Groove event presented by Jola Cafe, and he was due to perform alongside acts such as Philly, Gamiland, Coolio, Yamza, Boyzin Soundchef, Neo L, Zile, and Ayzo. However, Bongz was a no-show at Sterkspruit, after his team informed the organisers that he was not ‘feeling well’ enough to honour the engagement. Things, however, took a turn when the Jola Cafe organisers found out that Morda, who had been allegedly feeling sickly, was performing at an event in Jozi only two hours later.
“We can now conform that Murdah decided to attend a gig in Johannesburg instead of the one he was fully paid for at Jola Cafe in the Eastern Cape. He just played there two hours ago, even though he was ‘not feeling well,'” said the venue, after the developments.
Backing up their claims, Jola Cafe also posted their proof of payment, clearly showing that they had, in fact, paid him to come and entertain the crowds at Sterkspruit.

Neither Bongz nor his team have said anything about this. While attempts at reaching out to T Squared Productions have gone unanswered, the agency, which also represents the DJ, stated – in an Instagram reply to a disgruntled fan – that the news of Bongz being ill were untrue and that the team had only asked the appearance to be postponed.
“Siyaxolisa (we are sorry), sisi, we never said he is not well. We just asked to postpone the event n [SIC] gave a statement, but [the] promoter created their own stating that he is not well which was not true,” said T Squared Productions, replying to a comment on the matter.
No formal statement has been issued from Morda’s side about the debacle.
This is a developing story.
