“Was She High?”: South Africans React to Sni Mhlongo’s Arrest For Going Over the Speed Limit

Gen Z social media influencer and content creator Snikiwe Mhlongo was caught on the wrong side of the law, with the 26-year-old being nabbed by the cops for driving over the speed limit.

Mhlongo, also known for her highly publicized relationship with ex-boyfriend Zamani Mbatha, was reportedly handcuffed after being flagged down for hasty driving in Fourways, north of Johannesburg.

The social media butterfly was subsequently taken into custody at the Sandton Police Station before she was let loose for R1000 in bail money.

According to News24, Sni was captured by officers during a routine canvasing of the area after getting snapped on camera for doing 180km/h in a 60km/h zone. Upon being apprehended, Mhlongo was reported to have resisted arrest, basing her counter-argument to being arrested on her being a celebrity. The police also hinted that at the time of the arrest, Mhlongo had traces of alcohol in her system.

Mhlongo also made a court appearance at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court, where an undisclosed was passed on the vlogger.

South Africans were baffled over Sni’s arrest, with many commenting on her resisting to co-operate with the police because of her celeb status.

@Velani234 questioned her sobriety, saying: “She resisted being arrested and claimed she’s a celebrity? Yoh, I’m afraid they’re going to make an example out of her. Residential area driving like that is crazy. Was she high?”

@zesipho_n said: “180 in a 60 zone??? What the hell was she thinking???”

@__hazelr speculated that the incident was most likely Sni acting out because of relationship woes since there were rumours of her and Zamani getting back together, saying: “I say Zamani was cheating again.”

Sni Mhlongo has not made a public appearance on social media following the incident, and hasn’t given any updates concerning her arrest and the outcome of her court appearance.
