“Where Did It Go Wrong For Nota?”: Mzansi Reacts to Nota Baloyi’s 60-Day Imprisonment

Notorious music executive and artist manager Nhlamulo Baloyi, known to many simply as Nota, has been sentenced to sixty days in prison.

Known for his controversial claims, the infamous social media personality recently got bailed from prison after turning himself in because of a lingering rape case levelled against him by actor and musician Itumeleng Bokaba. This time around, however, he hasn’t been marked for time behind bars because of the Bokaba case but a defamation case involving multi-award-winning South African rapper and singer-songwriter Ntokozo “K.O” Mdluli.

Baloyi being found to be in contempt of court and subsequently being sent to prison is an escalation in the civil case between K.O and himself which was initially presided upon on the 9th of March 2023 by Honourable Justice Senyatsi.

Screenshots of private messages between Baloyi and Mdluli as well as legal documents implicating Nota for attempting to taint the musician’s reputation have surfaced over the past two days, circulating on X, as pressure has been mounting on Baloyi.

Baloyi alleged, after the murder of hip-hop superstar AKA and his longtime friend Tibz in February 2023, that K.O’s brother not only had a hand in the double homicide, but that the Teargas alumnus was an accomplice by not protecting AKA enough.

AKA and K.O were known to have a brotherly relationship, which extended to their music and yielded collaborations throughout the late rapper’s lifetime, including “Run Jozi (Godly)”, “God’s Will”, and the posthumously released “King Size”.

Nota, as per the terms of the court order, was thus sentenced to two months in prison at Leeuwkop Prison, or any other prison within the Gauteng region as an alternative.

Tweeps have been mostly critical of Nota since the latest development, with many rejoicing at Nhlamulo’s recent twist of fate, feeling that he deserved the jail time.

@ApheleleJody posted a meme of an elderly man dancing, saying: “Wait, Nota Baloyi is going to spend Christmas and New Year in prison? Praise God hallelujah, amen.”

@BafanaSurprise was critical of Nota’s approach and his people-pleasing tendecnies. He posted: “Nota being arrested as a joke, it’s not gonna work at all[SIC]. Bro sacrificed himself to please the public, as if he knows better about AKA’s death. Imagine serving 60 says in prison just because you wanna be a bigger person.”

@Sihle posted: “Where did it go wrong for Nota? Bro had it all, a superstar wife, a label, wealth, and status. Now he is in and out of jail.”
