Tyla’s Self-Titled Debut Project Amasses Over A Billion Streams on Spotify
World-renowned singer-songwriter Tyla’s debut album recently crossed the one billion streams mark on Spotify, making her the first female South African artist to reach such a feat.
The Grammy-winning songbird released her highly-anticipated self-titled maiden LP in March. Led by the global hit “Water”, as well as “Truth or Dare” and “Art”, the album performed favourably, receiving rave acclaim from critics (scoring an impressive 84/100 on Metacritic which indicates universal acclaim).
The album, furthermore, exceeded commercial expectations, moving 24, 000 album-equivalent units in the United States alone, thus debuting at 24 on the Billboard 200 chart. The placement also cemented Tyla’s status as the first female African soloist to have an album chart that high.

Tyla’s 2023 international earworm, “Water”, has amassed over 650 million streams on Spotify, with its remixes with Travis Scott and Marshmello raking up over 50 million and 23 million streams, respectively.
Her second single, “Truth or Dare” is currently sitting pretty with an excess of 86 million streams, whilst “Jump” alongside American rapper Gunna and Jamaican DJ Skillibeng trails slightly, following with 83 million streams.
The Johannesburg-born songstress currently has 31 million monthly listeners on Spotify recently scored more big-time international award nominations, receiving four BET Award nominations, including Best New Artist, Best International Act, and Best Female R&B/Pop Artist.
