Radio Personality Penny Ntuli Walks Away From Gagasi FM Over Unfair Pay Offer
Beloved radio presenter and social media personality Penny Ntuli has parted ways with Durban-based radio station Gagasi FM.
After having served the radio station for the past two years, Ntuli made the announcement on her Facebook and Instagram accounts, in which she cited that even though there was no bad blood between her and the radio station, she’d taken the decision to leave due to an unfair pay offer attached to her next season. In the posts, she shared a page of her official resignation letter to the station as well.

“To confirm the “rumours”, yebo ngiyashiya emsebenzini (translation: “yes, I am leaving work”). It was time to renew contracts, and I was given the opportunity to come back this season. I gladly accepted the new show until I was told ukuthi I’ll be getting paid R 2 800 p/m. (Something not too far from what I was getting paid the past 2 years),” Ntuli revealed on her posts.
The 26-year-old radio personality joined Gagasi in May 2022, and has since gone on to amass a following on her social media platforms, with 1.5 million follows on Facebook and 262 000 Insta followers. Her Z’ykhala program from 1 to 4am on the station garnered wide-reaching social media engagement, and made her a popular attraction with the general masses.
She shared her grief in her Facebook comments section, saying: “Yes I’m not doing Radio for imali (money) because ukusakaza ngyakuthanda (I love being a radio presenter) but ngangicela ukuthi (I humbly ask) at least nginikeni imali engzokwazi ukuphilisa ngayo umndeni wami ngoba kondla mina ekhaya (offer me adequate pay so that I’ll be able to provide for my family because I am the chief provider) […] I believe I’m worth much more than being paid R2800 per month. I’m not asking for a lot of money but please value me.”
