“I’m Going To Kill Us Both” Mohale Quotes Somizi
A breakdown of Mohale’s abuse allegations against Somizi
“I’m going to kill us both”, says Mohale Motaung, quoting Somizi Mhlongo-Motaung in a shocking audio interview with Sunday World. In the interview, Mohale makes several allegations of abuse against his estranged partner and openly details instances of emotional and physical abuse he endured prior to and during their marriage. The allegations com after months of divorce rumours and news that Somizi unfollowed Mohale on social media in April.
Mohale admits to there being trouble in paradise even before tying the knot but said he went ahead with marrying Somizi due to the emotional manipulation he experienced leading him to believe he contributed towards the abuse somehow. One particular incident he reveals is of Somizi grabbing a knife and threatening to use it on them both after Mohale attempted to leave to visit a friend of his.
“I took my keys and walked out, he took a knife. I was about to exit, so he said to me, ‘if you exit… I’m going to kill us both.’ So I took my keys and ran. He grabbed the knife and said ‘if you walk out, I’m going to stab you.’ Now I see a different person. I was sh*t scared and walked back into the house. He said ‘let’s talk.’ He cried and we moved on,” he states.
Another incident he details is one occurring on the night of the 2018 Idols SA finale. He claims that the Idols SA judge was upset over him texting a friend at night. When Mohale left their home in his car, Somizi followed him and the situation got out of control, according to Mohale’s telling of the story.
“I then get into the car and drive out. As I’m driving out the gate I see him behind with his car. He’s trying to follow me to see where I’m going. I drive and then he’s flashing his lights and I don’t stop. And then he hit me off the road.”
When a nearby security car drew near to assess the situation, Mohale states that Somizi sent him away, saying that Mohale got into an accident and that he was trying to help. He also opens up about a day when Somizi allegedly “beat [him] up” to a point where his ribs were broken and his tooth was falling out. According to Mohale, this happened after he attended a work event that Somizi was against.
Mohale discusses how distraught he is due to the various working opportunities he feels he lost due to Somizi’s disapproval of him working. He accuses Somizi of having a hand in blocking and intervening in his work opportunities, including one involving the Fergusons. Mohale says that he planned on working with Connie and Shona Ferguson until the Fergusons stopped talking to him due to Somizi telling his friend TT Mbha to tell the Fergusons not to work with him without his knowledge.
Phil Mphela released a statement on behalf of Somizi saying the following:
“Mr Somizi Mhlongo has become aware of allegations allegedly made against him by his estranged husband, Mr Mohale Motaung, published in the Sunday World newspaper on 1 August 2021. Given the severity of the allegations, Mr Mhlongo has referred the matter to his legal team who are best equipped to handle the matter moving forward,”
Businesswoman Jackie Phomotse, musician Amanda Black and radio personality Penny Lebyane are some of the celebrities that have spoken out in support of Mohale, while the SABC, Metro FM and Multichoice have also made statements regarding the matter.
“The SABC can confirm that Metro FM management met with Somizi Mhlongo and he has requested to take some time off from work. Management has granted Somizi Mhlongo permission to do so. The corporation has also noted comments on social media about Somizi Mhlongo and we would like to point out that the public broadcaster does not condone any acts of abuse and violence.”
Multichoice told Channel24 the following in a statement:
“We are aware of the allegations made against Somizi Mhlongo. As a strong proponent of a violence-free South Africa, we view these allegations seriously and are giving them the attention they deserve”.
